The Rubberleggers (bike riders!) get together twice a week, Wednesdays and Sundays, for bike rides, usually from May till late September. We have started the rides this year already. On Wednesdays, we meet at the north end of the Selkirk Trestle at 6:15pm and ride into town, around James Bay, and along the waterfront as far as Cadboro Bay, then we do a circuitous route to the Monkey Tree Pub, at Borden and McKenzie, for libations afterwards. A nice scenic ride, which takes us a little over two hours. We stop often for rests along the way.
The Sunday rides are variable. We meet at the same location, north end of the Selkirk Trestle, at 11am Sundays, and decide as a group where to ride. We ride to somewhere where we can have lunch, and then head back, which could be Sidney, Metchosen, Brentwood Bay, etc. We also have pre-planned rides on some Sundays, such as meeting in Nanaimo and taking the ferry to Gabriola Island for a ride, or taking the ferry to Port Angeles for a ride along their Olympic Discovery Trail, meeting at Shawnigan lake for a ride around the lake, etc. Riders all get the details ahead of time about the special planned rides. They are enjoyable and sociable rides. Good exercise and fun!
The Wednesday evening rides are drawing to a close due to fading daylight but the Sunday rides should continue into September as long as the weather permits and keen riders keep turning up!
